Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity, the participant should be able to: 

• Discuss what is commonly being done today to lift and move patients 
• Talk about the risks associated with manual handling 
• Look at how immobility impacts the patient and how SPH practices can impact immobility 
• Consider the position of governmental and professional groups such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), state legislation, and the American Nurses Association on Safe Patient Handling 
• This CE presentation may be followed up with a Lab Session to assess and apply appropriate solutions
